Qualify for the Championship
The Players Championship is an invite-only event that concludes the 12-month MMS season. The aim is to crown the best player in the region. Top 8 receives cash prizes, and 1st place also gets a personal token.
Who’s invited? The season’s 12 MMS Open winners, and the 10 top-ranked players on the leaderboard, and the year’s previous champion.
What’s the prize pool? The sum total of every $7 set aside from each MMS Open player tournament entry during the regular season. For example: $7 per entry x 12 events per season x ~40 players per event = $3360.
What’s the format? Modern for the Swiss portion. Top 8 is Draft of a recent set, as announced.
Frequently asked questions

If we need to adjust a tournament date to accommodate other events, you’ll find updates on this site, the Denver Mulldrifters Discord server, and the Colorado Magic Events Announcement group on Facebook.
-
Team Trios is a format where a team of three plays against another team of three. Each player is responsible for a different format and plays against the other team in that format. For example: the Modern seat plays against the Modern seat, Pioneer plays vs. Pioneer, etc.
If your team wins a Team Trios event, you all three qualify for the Players Championship.
After the Swiss, there’s a cut to Top 4, not Top 8.
-
Yes, the monthly open tournaments are open to anyone. If you score a second qualification to the Championship, that invite will pass down to the next non-qualified player in Top 8.
-
Yes, MMS Opens and the Players Championship are held at competitive REL, unless noted otherwise. At least one judge is on hand to answer questions and resolve issues.
-
The top 10 players on the leaderboard at season’s end are invited to the Players Championship.
Final season standings are determined by the total number of MMS Qualifier Points a player earned during the regular season at Opens.
In the case of a tie on points at the end of the regular season between two or more players, the invitation will go to whomever achieved the highest placement in a MMS Open during the regular season.
For example, if two players both have 30 points and one had a top finish of 2nd in an Open and the other had a top finish of 4th, the first player would be awarded the invite. If players are tied for both points and top finishes, their second-highest placement in an Open will be the tiebreaker, and so on.
-
The Top 8 players may split the cash prize pool but are required to play their matches in Top 8 to determine who wins the Players Championship invite, and how the qualifier points will be distributed.
Players may drop from Top 8 to receive the cash and points that correspond to their standings. If two players that would otherwise play choose to drop, the match winner and the corresponding points will be assigned at random.
For team events, each player on a top-finishing team will receive the same number of points.

$7 of every player tournament entry for all MMS Opens during the regular season is added to the Players Championship prize pool.
For example: 12 monthly tournaments at $7 per entry, with an average of 40 players per Open gives us a total prize pool of $3360 to split between Top 8.
